A 31-year-old woman, Shade Adelowo, has been arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command for using razor blade to inflict injuries on the body of 11-year-old Kehinde Ojo, over an allegation that he stole N3000 from her purse.
Apprehended on Sunday, October 24, 2021, the woman, a mother of two, was said to have committed the act on her neighbour’s son at their residence at Giwa Oke Aro area of Agbado.
Confirming the arrest, the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the victim’s mother, who was abandoned with three children by her husband, had been engaging in menial jobs to take care of the children, and usually left them with the suspect whenever she was going to work.
Lodging a report at Agbado divisional headquarters, the mother said that it was a thing of surprise for her when she saw what the suspect did to her son, because she had been very good to him in the past.
She stated that her neighbour had accused her son of stealing N3,000 from her purse.
The PPRO disclosed that it was based on the report that the Divisional Police Officer, Agbado Division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, sent his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
When interrogated, Adelowo claimed that the boy, who used to stay with her whenever his mother was not around, stole N3000 from her purse, and that she didn’t know what came over her that made her to inflict such injuries on him.
She further claimed that she had been taking care of the boy and his twin brother for quite some time, and that what happened on that fateful day was the devil’s work.
