The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has lauded the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State wing, for their dedication, professionalism and steadfastness, in the advancement of education in the state.

The Commissioner, who led the Management team of the Ministry on a courtesy visit to the NUT State Secretariat in Ibadan on Monday, October 6, joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Teachers’ Day.

Prince Dotun Oyelade expressed his sincere appreciation to Oyo NUT for consistent support and willingness to partner with the Ministry of Information.

He also thanked the union for their strong support during the launch of his book, “Know Oyo State.”

He commended the vital role teachers play in raising future leaders, describing their work as being crucial to developing well-trained and capable persons.

He applauded the Oyo State government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for his reforms in education.

The reforms, Oyelade stated, has led to 100 percent increase in the staff strength – from 13,730 in 2019 to 26,436 in 2025, while over 10,500 teaching and non-teaching staff have been employed to improve academic performance and standard of living in the state.

He stated that recently, the National President of NUT said that almost 195,000 teachers are needed in the educational sector in the federation.

“If all states employ as many as Oyo does, the shortage wouldn’t have arisen,” the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner stated further that Governor Makinde’s administration has created four new educational zones, including administrative structures, while 2,000 teachers have been absorbed into the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to further strengthen efficiency.

In his remarks, the state NUT Chairman, Comrade Raji Oladimeji, appreciated the governor for his support in developing the educational sector, and his contributions to the improvement of teachers’ welfare in the state.

He said Prince Oyelade would be the first Commissioner to visit the NUT office.
