The presidential aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has charged the 99 delegates of the party from Oyo State to put into consideration the place of Nigeria in the world, especially the black race.
Akapbio gave the charge on Friday, June 3, 2022, while seeking the support of All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates from Oyo State, ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for June 6 and 7.
in his address to the delegates in Ibadan, Akpabio noted that Nigeria under his control was set to be an enviable black nation in respect to growth and development.
According to him, “the fate and greatness of the entire black race depend on Nigeria, because there is one Nigerian in every four black persons in the world.
“The transformation of Nigeria as a country, in respect to growth and development, will transcend throughout the entire black race.
“This country is tremendously blessed in human and natural resources that can transform us to be a developed country.
“My achievements as the governor of Akwa Ibom remain unbeatable, because the great transformation achieved covers all sectors including the economy, agriculture and tourism. Not leaving behind my escapades in tackling insecurity in Niger-Delta.
“Awolowo remains my political hero, and I have diligently followed his footsteps. I practised free education in my state as a governor, I spent N100 per child in the primary and N300 per child in the secondary on a daily basis.
“I know the true value of education, because education is the last hope of the common man, and I am making education free at all levels if given the opportunity to lead this country as the next president.”
He also noted that “the destinies of millions of people should depend on a man with the fear of God. Walking with God has given me the opportunity to break the World Guinness Book of Records for hosting the largest gathering in praise of God.
“It is all over the internet that Akwa Ibom Unity Choir under my direction stampeded the world as the largest number of Christmas Carol singers to gather in the praise of God. The event was witnessed by people without preference to religion, tribe, class or gender.
“I will involve the traditional institutions and religious bodies in my governance, especially in tackling insecurity and promoting peace. I am the only man equipped with strategies to encourage national integration.”
In addition, Akpabio, said he aims at making his experience of uncommon transformation to bear on Nigeria.
He said that his past track records showed that he had the capacity and capability to uplift Nigeria from the level she is currently in to the next.
According to him, “I came as part of the consultations to let the good people of Nigeria know that I am vying for president under the All Progressives Congress. I’m here to seek the support of delegates from Oyo State to become the flagbearer of the party at next week’s convention.
“I have the experience and I want to make sure I bring the experience of uncommon transformation to bear on Nigeria.
“And I will also ensure that there is continuity in most of the laudable achievements of President Muhammdu Buhari.
“The roads I constructed 14 years ago as governor, they are still standing till today and there is no potholes on them. I believe in quality infrastructure.
“You can’t do good things for your people if you don’t love them, I happen to love Nigeria.”
In his response, the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, referred to the pacesetter state as the political headquarters of South West, adding that the state has the highest number of delegates from the region.
Senator Folarin also said his perception of Akpabio as a serious candidate made him to the presidential aspirant to “come and show them (Oyo delegates) respect and love, and I am sure they quite appreciate it.”
He stated further: “If you want to be president and you don’t come to Ibadan, we don’t consider you a serious aspirant.
“Out of all the delegates that are from outside the South West, you are the one for me.”
Aside Senator Folarin, in attendance were the state executive members led by the Chairman, Mr Isaac Omodewu.
