The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, has urged the Federal Government to look into university education in Nigeria so that the nation’s tertiary institutions will have a stable academic calendar.
Dr Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, stated this on Monday, November 27, 2023, when he was honoured by the Alumni Association of the University of Ibadan with an award of excellence.
The award was presented to him in his office by the President of the University’s Alumni Association, Prof. Gabriel Nyityo, who was accompanied by Prof. Elsie Adewoye and Mr. Hyacinth Kyaagba, past presidents of the association.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the delegation decided to present the award to the PSC Chairman in his office since other pressing official engagements could not allow him attend the awards ceremony held last week in Lagos.
Receiving the award, Dr. Arase said he was humbled by the recognition, remarking that the award was very dear to him.
He stated that the training he had in Strategic Studies gave him the fertile mind and critical skills that prepared and defined his career paths.
Praying that the government would be enabled to see through university education in Nigeria so that the nation’s university would have a stable academic calendar, Dr Arase said that this would aid parents in predicting when their children/wards could get into and exit the university.
Earlier, the President of the Alumni, Prof Nyityo said the award on Dr. Arase was in perpetual appreciation for “postively projecting the image of our university.”
The PSC Chairman later presented a book: “Readings on Election Security Management,” edited by him, to the delegation.
