Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the IGP Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) have intercepted and seized two trucks allegedly used in smuggling petroleum products believed to be crude oil.
The Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, April 21.
The interception occurred at Obollo-Afor in Enugu State, with each truck found to be laden with 38 GeePee tanks containing the crude oil.
The trucks were a MAN-Diesel open-body truck with registration number LGT 775 XA and a DAF XF open-body truck with registration number FKY 245 YF.
The FPRO stated: “Upon sighting our personnel, the drivers attempted to flee and resist arrest, but they were eventually apprehended by the vigilant officers.
“Both trucks were found to be loaded with petroleum products, concealed in GeePee tanks covered with tarpaulin.
“The trucks, along with the petroleum product, have been securely impounded at the Obollo-Afor Divisional Police Headquarters, while further investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.”
He said that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterated the commitment of the police force in combating those engaged in illegal activities which are a sabotage of the economy.
The IGP assured that the NPF would continue to work tirelessly to dismantle the smugglers’s operations, while he urged well-meaning members of the public to cooperate with the Police by providing timely and relevant information necessary for curbing these criminal activities in the society.
