Two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been arrested by Osun State Police Command in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a Tokunbo vehicle driver on Sunday, March 15, at Dada Estate area of Osogbo.
The suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were reportedly chasing drivers of suspected Tokunbo (foreign-used) vehicles when the incident occurred.
The Command’s spokesman DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who confirmed the arrest, said that when the matter was reported, police operatives swiftly responded and apprehended the two officers.
The PPRO disclosed that the driver of one of the vehicles, an ash colour Toyota Corolla, being chased by the Customs operatives, was confirmed dead by a medical doctor in Osun State University Teaching Hospital, while his corpse has been deposited at the morgue.
The name of the deceased has yet to be known as at the time of writing this report.
Items recovered from the scene of incident by the police included a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, an expanded shell of 9mm, a white Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 400 GQ (Lagos), and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982 (Texas).
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Command assures members of the public that anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Citizens are also advised to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that can aid ongoing investigations.
“Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” Ojelabi said.
