The Oyo State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against violent crime, killing a suspected robber during a foiled attack in Iseyin and rescuing an abducted farmer in the Irawo area of the state.
The command said one robbery suspect was killed while two others were arrested during an attempted robbery operation along Saki Road in Iseyin.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. after security operatives received intelligence reports about armed men attacking a residence that had previously been targeted earlier this year.
Ayanlade disclosed that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where about five armed suspects were said to have invaded the house.
“The resident security guard engaged the attackers in a gun duel, leading to the killing of one suspect and the arrest of two others, while other gang members escaped with suspected gunshot injuries,” he said.
Items recovered from the suspects included a locally fabricated gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, five mobile phones, two power banks, and cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
In a separate operation, the police also rescued a farmer who had been abducted in the Irawo area and arrested four suspected kidnappers linked to the crime.
The police spokesperson said the rescue operation followed intelligence-led investigations by operatives of the command, leading to the safe release of the victim and the apprehension of the suspects.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
