ILE-IFE, Osun State — The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has conferred a chieftaincy title on popular Yoruba actor and comedian Sunday Omoniyi Obiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, while also presenting him with a brand-new car and other gifts in recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry and Yoruba cultural heritage.
The colourful ceremony, held in Ile-Ife, drew the attention of cultural enthusiasts and supporters who gathered to witness the royal honour bestowed on the veteran entertainer.
During the event, the monarch praised Baba Ijesha’s role in promoting Yoruba culture through his decades-long career in acting and comedy.
As part of the recognition, the actor received a prestigious chieftaincy title from the Ooni, alongside a new vehicle and other valuable gifts.
The royal gesture was described as a mark of appreciation for his dedication to the promotion of indigenous arts and entertainment.
Expressing gratitude for the honour, Baba Ijesha said he was humbled by the recognition and thanked the Ooni for the confidence reposed in him. He noted that the award would inspire him to continue contributing positively to society and preserving Yoruba cultural values through his craft.
