The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of spreading unsubstantiated allegations to gain public sympathy ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adekanmbi, through the APM Governorship Campaign Council, was reacting to allegations linking the party and its candidate to the reported destruction of APC campaign billboards in some parts of Ibadan, the state capital.
The council described the allegation as baseless, insisting that neither Adekanmbi nor the APM had any involvement in the reported incident.
In a statement signed by its Director of Communication and Spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, on Wednesday, October 14, the council warned the APC and its candidate against associating Adekanmbi with acts of violence or destruction of property.
It described the APM candidate as a peaceful individual who had never been associated with activities capable of threatening public peace or damaging other people’s property.
The council also argued that Oyo State had enjoyed peaceful coexistence and development under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in the last seven years.
It accused the APC of attempting to shift the blame for its internal crisis to the APM, recalling an earlier allegation that some APC leaders were attacked by APM members during the party’s engagements.
The council further accused the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation of spreading what it described as misleading information about an alleged diphtheria outbreak in the state.
According to the statement, the allegations against the APM reflected the APC’s alleged failure to present convincing programmes and policies capable of winning the confidence of Oyo residents.
The council expressed confidence that the electorate would reject what it described as deception and blackmail, insisting that residents who had experienced the Makinde administration’s performance would support continuity in 2027.
It added that no amount of allegations against Adekanmbi and the APM would prevent the party from defeating the APC at the polls.
The council, however, called on security agencies in the state to investigate the reported destruction of billboards and establish the authenticity of the allegation, as well as identify those responsible.
It also urged APM members and supporters to remain peaceful and continue their campaign activities without fear, expressing confidence in the ability of security agencies to protect lives and property.
