The Oyo State Government has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of manufacturing falsehood and deliberately misleading residents with its allegation that Governor Seyi Makinde plans to sell or transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm to a private developer.
The government described the allegation as baseless misinformation, accusing the opposition party of resorting to speculation, rumours and political theatrics instead of engaging the people with credible policies and alternative solutions to the challenges facing the state.
The Special Adviser on Media to Governor Makinde, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stated this in a statement issued on Friday, November 6, insisting that there was no plan by the state government to sell, cede or transfer the fish farm to any private interest.
Olanrewaju challenged the APC to produce any government directive, policy decision, Executive Council resolution or official communication to substantiate its allegation, saying the party had failed to present any credible evidence to support its claim.
He said the government would ordinarily have ignored what he described as a baseless allegation but was compelled to respond to prevent the opposition from creating unnecessary public anxiety through misinformation.
The governor’s aide also took a swipe at the APC’s record in government, accusing the party of presiding over abandoned projects, institutional decline, inadequate infrastructure and economic stagnation before the emergence of the Makinde administration in 2019.
He said the present administration had demonstrated commitment to developing Oyo State through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and economic expansion, adding that its policies were aimed at preserving and optimising public assets for the collective benefit of residents.
Olanrewaju further accused the opposition of deliberately portraying development initiatives as attempts to appropriate public property, arguing that such claims reflected its inability to distinguish between strategic development and negligence.
He challenged the APC to present credible evidence to the public or retract its allegation and apologise to the people of the state for what he described as another attempt to mislead them.
The government, he stressed, remained committed to protecting the Agodi Government Fish Farm as a valuable public asset, adding that any decision concerning its operation, management or future development would be guided by public interest and the law.
Olanrewaju urged residents to disregard the APC’s allegation, insisting that the Makinde administration would not be distracted by what he called manufactured scandals and fear-mongering but would remain focused on infrastructure development, job creation and economic growth.
