In its zero tolerance for crimes and criminality, particularly, traffic robbery, Lagos State Police Command has arrested nine suspected traffic robbers, few hours into 2021.
The arrest was made on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at about 8p.m., at Y-Junction, former Tollgate, Ketu, by operatives attached to Ketu Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement issued on Friday, January 1, 2021, disclosed that the suspects had attacked one Mr Adejare Adetayo and his wife while they were held up in traffic, before police detectives in undercover operation went after the hoodlums.
He gave the names of the suspects as Oluseyi Afolabi (19), Adeyemo Ayomide (18), Francis Latina (19), Rilwan Raji (23), Ayomide Oyediran (20), Rasheed Ibrahim (22), Hamzat Abdullahi (19), Musa Gbadamisu (20) and Seun Lasisi (32).
Two long knives and other weapons being used by the traffic robbery suspects were recovered by the police, Adejobi said.
Commending the police operatives, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, assured Lagosians of adequate security and public safety within the length and breadth of the state.
He also directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.
Odumosu, who felicitated with Lagosians, officers and men of the command, stakeholders in the security sector and sister security agencies, on the new year celebration, also admonished Lagos residents to embrace peace and obey all laws, the image maker said.
The police commissioner added that the police and other security agencies in the state would always be ready to discharge their duties effectively.
