A 35-year-old man, Obinna Kalu, who allegedly shot his co-tenant, Adijat Balogun, in her right rib with gun, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Sabo/Ilupeju area of the state capital.
Giving an insight in a statement on Thursday, March 18, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the suspect was nabbed when one Olayiwola Kareem reported at Sabo/Ilupeju divisional headquarters that the victim was sleeping in her room at about 12 noon on Sunday, March 24, when Kalu sneaked in and shot her with a gun in the right rib.
After committing the act, Oyeyemi stated that the suspect reportedly packed his belongings and fled the house.
He was said to have been at loggerheads always with the victim before the shooting.
The PPRO said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sabo/Ilupeju division, SP Mustapha Opawoye to lead his men to the scene.
The victim was rushed to State Hospital, Ijaye, from where she was referred to Federal Medical Center, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, for urgent medical treatment.
After a search was mounted for Kalu, he was arrested two days after the incident, with the cooperation of members of the public, the PPRO said further.
Though the suspect initially denied being the one connected with the shooting, Oyeyemi said that he had nothing to say when asked about the rationale behind packing his belongings and the sudden escape from his place of abode.
The victim was said to be in the hospital, currently recuperating, while the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the case to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran , Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
