A 32-year-old married man, Sunday Ukeme, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter (name withheld) kept in the protective custody of his family, has been arrested by detectives attached to the Akodo Police Division in Lagos State Police Command.
Confirming the arrest on Sunday, October 10, 2021, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said that the incident occurred at Idaso Community, Ibeju Lekki,on September 20, after the suspect’s wife left for vigil in one of the churches in the neighbourhood.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the victim’s mother had kept her daughter in the custody of the suspect’s wife while travelling out of the town for three weeks.
According to the report made to the police by the mother, it was her daughter who spoke on how she was defiled when she (mother) returned from the journey.
“Consequent upon the report lodged at the Police Station on 4th October, 2021, detectives immediately arrested the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. He however, pleaded for mercy, blaming his shameful, immoral and criminal act on the influence of alcohol.
“The victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for diligent investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu,” the PPRO stated.
Odumosu, who promised protection for every girl child and other vulnerable persons in the state, vowed to prosecute such child sex offenders with unbridled sexual urge for minors.
