Five days after Lagos State Police Command rescued an abandoned day-old baby boy, another abandoned day-old baby was found lifeless by police operatives attached to Ikeja Division on Saturday, March 20, 2021.
The dead baby was recovered after the operatives responded to a call from the Security Department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, and found it lying beside Ayinke Hospital, on Airport Road, Ikeja.
The baby was suspected to have died as a result of exposure to health risks, after it was left in the cold by its mother.
According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, police, having discovered the corpse of the baby, contacted the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit which evacuated the corpse.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who ordered the State Intelligence Bureau and Surveillance teams in the command to carry out findings on the act, condemned the barbaric nature of dumping and/or killing babies with carefree attitude.
The PPRO stated further that Odumosu also directed the operatives to keep watch on the criminals who engage in such heinous crimes, with a view to bringing them to book and curbing the act in the society.
In another development, the Anti-Crime Patrol team attached to Ilasan Division of the Command, intercepted three men on a motorcycle.
Two of the suspected armed robbers were arrested, while one escaped with their operational motorcycle, also on March 20, at about 9.30pm, on Lekki-Epe Highway.
Adejobi gave the names of the suspects as Okorocha Covenant (28), and Adigun Jeremiah (27), both of Badagry Area of Lagos State.
A Beretta pistol with ammunition was recovered from the suspects, the PPRO stated.
He added that the state police boss had ordered that the suspects be taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation.
Odumosu also directed the Area Command, Area ‘J’, Ajah, to step up its anti- crime strategies, including raids of black spots and surveillance, to combat crime and criminality in the entire area.
