The Delta State Police Command, in its ongoing crackdown on crime across the state, has arrested 23 suspects, seized large quantities of illicit drugs and recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck in separate operations.
This was disclosed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Saturday, May 23.
Twenty two suspects, all males, were apprehended at targeted locations around Hausa Market, Okpanam, in an operation carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police and led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations.
Thenewsbearer gathered that the DCP led operatives of the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol teams on a raid of identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and brothels within the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis on Friday, May 22, during which the 22 suspects were arrested.
Recovered were exhibits, including 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The PPRO said in the statement: “The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation. Suspects found culpable will be prosecuted.”
Edafe also spoke on the recovery of a stolen HOWO trailer truck with registration number KK 192 XA at Ifite-Awka, Anambra State, by the operatives of Operation Safe Delta.
The recovery followed a petition alleging the snatching of a trailer truck, stealing, and conspiracy, which led the operatives to its tracking and recovery.
The image maker said that the truck has been towed to Asaba, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In another operation, a 57-year-old female suspect was arrested in connection with the recovery of 13 polythene bags containing substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, which operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, discovered in an intercepted tricycle during a stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road, Warri, on May 22.
SP Edafe stated that investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, who commended the operatives, urged residents to continue supporting the Police with credible information.
He assured that all suspects found culpable would be brought to justice.
