•Robbery suspect fatally shot in gun duel
Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered arms and ammunition, in connection with the murder of the Prince of Orhuwhorun, Eric Takerere, and two mobile policemen whose rifles were carted away.
The prince’s murderers were said to have also attempted killing his brother, Prince Franklyn Takerere.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, had begun a diligent investigation on the incident, culminating in the arrest of one Godspower Agabarhayowe a.k.a Ganagana and Tony Edwin, both aged 27, who were earlier picked up on July 9, by police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) on Monday, September 6, 2021,
They had reportedly led the police operatives to their hideout in Udu, Warri and Aladja areas where six suspects, namely Onoriode Shefo a.k.a Chicago (36), Omagbeosa Sholla (30), Godwin Obukoemu a.k.a Million (30), Ejime Mugagbam (34), Ejiroghene Nushe (24) and Egho Monday (28).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 8, the acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, said that when interrogated, the suspects all confessed to have been involved in the murder of the prince and the two mobile policemen.
According to the PPRO, they also led the operatives to their armoury where two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, a locally-made pistol, four magazines, 76 rounds of live ammunition and 38 rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
Also on Monday , September 7, at about 4:20am, the police spokesman disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ovwian Aladja police station received a distress call that armed robbers were operating at Obogo community.
Edafe said: “He (DPO) mobilized police patrol team and vigilante in the community to the scene. The armed robbers, on sighting the police patrol, engaged the team in a gun duel, but they could not withstand the superior firepower of the combined team.
“During the gun duel, one of the armed robbers sustained serious gun shot injury while two others escaped. The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment. One locally-made pistol with one live cartridge were recovered. Investigation is ongoing.”
