The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Directorate, has arraigned a man, Adeoye Gabriel Adewale, and his company, De Lukas Global Concept Limited, before the Oyo State High Court over an alleged N7.819 million fraud.
The defendants were arraigned on Thursday, August 13, 2026, before Justice Olusola Adetujoye in Ibadan.
The EFCC alleged that Adewale defrauded one Abdulrasaq Awotedo of N7,819,000 after presenting himself as a car dealer and obtaining the money for the purchase of two vehicles.
According to the Commission, the defendant allegedly used a fake car mart to convince the victim and subsequently received the money through the company’s First Bank account.
The EFCC further alleged that Adewale converted the funds to his personal use instead of using them for the purpose for which they were paid.
The defendant was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion, contrary to Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The charge alleged that Adewale and De Lukas Global Concept Limited, between October 6, 2021, and March 23, 2022, within the jurisdiction of the court, converted N7,819,000 belonging to Awotedo to their personal use.
Adewale pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Following his plea, EFCC counsel, Sanusi Galandachi, urged the court to adjourn the matter for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
However, counsel to the defendant, A. Towolawi, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the court to admit his client to bail pending the determination of the case.
Justice Adetujoye subsequently adjourned the matter for hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre pending the hearing.
The alleged offence remains a matter before the court, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
