The FCT Police Command has tracked down and arrested five wanted banditry suspects.
The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Garuba a.k.a. Alhaji Ore, aged 40; Yusuf Inuwa a.k.a. Alhaji Dabunda, 59 years old; David Kaika a.k.a. Baba, aged 29; Baba Imaji, a female aged 36; and Ibrahim Nasiru a.k.a. Pepper.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include 2,186 rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition, two AK-47 rifles with obliterated serial numbers, one locally-fabricated pistol with two live cartridges and five operational motorcycles used by the suspects.
This operation, led by the Commander Scorpion Squad, was carried out between Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 28, according to a statement by the Command’s spokeswoman, SP Josephine Adeh on Monday, September 29.
The PPRO, in the statement, said that the suspects had been responsible for several kidnappings in the North Central, North West, and North East geopolitical zones, and had been on the wanted list of the police and other security agencies.
“They were tracked to Nasarawa, where they were arrested,” Adeh stated.
She added: “All suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
“Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest their other gang member currently on the run.”
While commending the bravery and gallantry of the officers, the FCT Police boss, CP Ajao Adewale, reassured the public of his continued efforts to rid the FCT and its environs of crime and criminality.
