An armed robbery suspect, Bolanle Ojomu, decided to spend the Independence Day, October 1, 2021, in police cell, as he was arrested by policemen of Ogun State Command at a robbery operation being carried out at Ilese Ijebu.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect was operating with his gang members at Silva Estate, Odomalasa area of Ilese ijebu, at about 12:30am, when the police in the town’s police station got a distress call that the armed robbers were terrorizing the residents.
This reportedly made the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Amuda Bolaji, to quickly mobilize his patrol team move to the scene.
But as the criminals sighted the policemen, they fled to avoid being arrested. However, they were pursued by the cops, leading to Ojomu being apprehended, with the assistance of members of the community, while others escaped.
Confirming the arrest, the police spokesman in the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that a locally-made gun and a live cartridge were recovered from the arrested suspect.
The PPRO said that the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
The acting CP also directed a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang, for them to be arrested and brought to justice.
