The abduction of over 20 medical students of University of Jos along notorious Otukpo-Enugu road on Thursday, August 15, has been explained by the Benue State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, on Friday, August 16, told journalists that the medical students had left Jos on their way to Enugu when they were kidnapped along Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Road by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the road, especially the Otukpo-Otukpa axis is notorious for criminality, as a week hardly passes without a report of kidnapping around the area.
In a message, the PPRO said: “A report was received that medical students, about 20 of them, were on their way from Jos to Enugu and were kidnapped after Otukpo. Investigation is ongoing.”
The medical students were reportedly traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students annual convention in Enugu when they ran into the gunmen.
It will be recalled that some prominent people, among who were local government chairmen, priests, Rector of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo and other road users, had been victims of kidnappers along the road.
