A 25-year-old man, Elisha James, who was arrested by policemen in Ogun State Command for allegedly having a forceful carnal knowledge of the four-year-old daughter of his co-tenant (names withheld), has said that he did not know what came over him to have made him commit such an act.
The suspect’s arrest was made known by the police image-maker in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Oyeyemi said that the suspect, residing at Mokore Road area of Warewa Community, was picked up on Monday, March 29, after a report was made at Warewa police station by the mother of the victim.
The PPRO said that the mother told the police that she was spreading some clothes she washed at about 7pm, when she heard her four-year-old daughter crying in agony from the room of the suspect.
“She stated further that when she entered the room, she met the suspect defiling her daughter,” Oyeyemi stated.
He added that the report made the Divisional Police Officer at Warewa Division, CSP Folashade Tanaruno, to send detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
He added: “On interrogation, he (the suspect) admitted to having committed the crime, claiming that he didn’t know what came over him.
Oyeyemi stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward A Ajogun, had ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran , Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
