A police sergeant, Olalere Michael, attached to PMF 15, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, killed a yet-to-identified lady, then turned the gun on himself and shot himself dead.
The incident occurred at about 8:05am, today, March 2, 2023.
This contradicted the rumour that milled around of a policeman killing a civilian.
Information gathered by Thenewsbearer from the Kwara State Police Command had it that the sergeant, with Force Number 497093, went to Chapel of Redemption, Agba Dam Housing Estate, Ilorin and shot the lady, after which he shot himself in the head, dying instantly .
The police spokesmen in the state, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement, said that immediately the information got to the command, “the Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, CP Paul Odama, dispatched a team of policemen and detectives to the scene, where the corpses were recovered and deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.”
He made it known that the doctors in the teaching hospital certified the bodies dead.
“The command wishes to state clearly that the deadly incident was an aftermath of love gone sour, and that it has nothing to do with police brutality,” the PPRO stated.
He added that investigation into the incident was in progress, and that the report would be made public as soon as it is ready.
