February 23, 2026: New York, USA — The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has launched an intensive search for the suspect believed responsible for the fatal shooting of a Nigerian man inside a Brooklyn nightclub earlier this month.
The victim, Sheriff Shittu, a 30-year-old Nigerian based in the United States, was killed in the early hours of February 14 during a birthday celebration at the Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in the East Flatbush area.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at about 4:25 a.m. following an altercation with an intoxicated patron who was being escorted out of the club by security personnel when he allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
Friends and family described Shittu as a hardworking aspiring fashion designer who had moved to the United States to build his brand and career.
He was reportedly attending the event with his younger brother to celebrate a friend’s birthday just one day before their mother was scheduled to arrive for a visit from Nigeria.
Witnesses and relatives expressed shock and sorrow at the loss, and raised concerns about how a gun was brought into the venue despite security measures. NYPD officers confirmed the suspect fled the scene and remains at large as police continue their manhunt.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify and arrest the individual responsible for the shooting.
