The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has warned some policemen who have not been performing their statutory duties as expected, that the command will be tough with them.
The Commissioner of Police gave the warning on Friday, November 13, 2020.
According to the police image-maker in the state, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police commissioner’s statement came during a general security meeting with his management team, Area Commamders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department at the State Command Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja.
Making reference to the EndSARS protests and the violence that wreaked havoc in the state, Odumosu stated that there should be no reason or excuse for any policeman to be absent or indolent while on duty.
He also noted the words of encouragement, solidarity and support from the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and well-meaning Nigerians, including the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
The police commissioner stressed the need for police officers and men in state “to rise up to the security challenges in the state, particularly during the ember months, usually characterized by crimes and social vices.”
He said that the command would not condone any act of negligence, indolence and complacency from any police personnel.
Saying that the security of the state could not be handled with levity, Odumosu further warned Area Commnaders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department to henceforth declare any policeman who fails to report to duty a deserter and book such.
He said such a policeman would be dealt with according to the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations.
In his message to the general public, the Lagos State police boss appealed to all and sundry to support the police, so as to collectively fight crime and criminality in the state.
