Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight students suspected of engaging in cult activities within Ifo High School premises.
The suspected student cultists were identified as Omolaso Waris, aged 16; Bennett Bolawatife, 15; Aluko Taiwo, 15; Akinola Ifeoluwa, 16; Azeez Hassan, 16; Kilani Babatunde a.k.a. Soldier, 16 years; Kehinde Aluko, 15; and Fasedemi Samuel, 16.
They were arrested when the school headship raised alarm over an emerging group of cultists in the school.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Alako Oluwole, alongside a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported on Friday, March 21 that a group of students involved in cult-related activities had been causing disturbances in the school and extorting valuables from fellow students.
The command’s spokeswoman, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ifo Division, in collaboration with the authorities of Ifo High School, apprehended the eight students.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the students are members of the Future Guys (F.T.G.) cult group and were allegedly initiated by two senior students, Ebenezer Ope (the group’s President) and Ebenezer Tobi, both in SSS 1.
“The Police have commenced a thorough investigation to determine the extent of cult activities in the school and prevent further occurrences.
“The students will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department upon the conclusion of preliminary investigation,” the PPRO stated.
She said that the Commissioner of Police, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the students be brought before him for further interviews where other referrals for counselling and mentoring will be organized.
The Commissioner of Police further reiterated his commitment to maintaining law and order in Ogun State, urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to collaborate in eradicating cultism from schools.
