Ninety five persons suspected to be cultists were arrested by the Edo State Police Command during raids of their enclaves in Benin-City and environs.
Recovered were two locally-made pistols, one single barrel shotgun and 24 live cartridges
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, said that the suspects belong to the notorious Maphites, Eiye and Aye confraternities, and were believed to be responsible for the cult supremacy killings in the state.
The PPRO stated that 64 of the suspects had been charged to court and remanded, while the remaining suspects were still being investigated.
Commenting on the arrested suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, urged parents and guardians to keep a tab on the activities of their wards, in order to curb the menace of cultism.
The Commissioner of Police further warned youths in the state to desist from joining unlawful societies that could only dim their future and ultimately claim their lives or that of other innocent persons
