Operatives of SWAT unit in Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, April 22, arrested three suspects in connection with trading in human body parts.
The suspects were identified as Sunday Akintobi, aged 36 and resident of Itoku area in Abeokuta; Oladimeji Olaniran, 40 years old and Isaiah Tijani, aged 38.
Disclosing the arrest in a statement, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, said that on searching the residences of the suspects, the operatives discovered human remains, while cerebral bones were also recovered from a location disguised as white-garment churches in Kobape Town and along Abiola Way in Abeokuta.
She said that the Commissioner of Police, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct discreet investigation into the case, in order to establish the full involvement of the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to refrain from shielding criminal elements but provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
He said that such cooperation is crucial in curbing ritual killings and other violent crimes in the state.
