OGUN State police command has confirmed an accident that occurred at Iju-Ota involving a vehicle and a motorcycle, on September 4, which led to the death of the motorcyclist, one Benjamin Adekanmi.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, said the accident occurred in front of Islamic Primary School, Iju Ota, at 4:50a.m.
“The incident was thoroughly investigated by the Ogun State police command contrary to the adverse narrative on the incident on social media .
“The accident involved a Ford bus with registration number SMK 63YC driven by one Ndidi Honest, who reported to the police and on whose sole report the police conducted its investigation, and a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number KNN691WG , whose identity was given as Benjamin Adekanmi now late.
“According to the account provided by the bus driver, Ndidi Honest, the ongoing drainage construction in the area played a significant role in the accident.
“It was reported that the motorcyclist, travelling at high speed, lost control while attempting to manoeuvre a heap of sand, leading to a collision with the bus. This resulted in severe head injury and a broken leg for the cyclist, ultimately causing his death.
“Prompt action was taken by Ndidi Honest, who reported the accident to the Iju Police post.
“A detective accompanied the bus driver to the scene to assess the situation. The injured motorcyclist was quickly transported to General Hospital, Ota for medical attention, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending doctors.
“His remains were subsequently released to his family for burial rites.
The police command said utmost reasonableness and professionalism was deployed in handling the matter, just as it called on the public to discountenance and disregard any misinformation or misrepresentation of the incident.
