Attempt by two suspected fraudsters, Uche Awaize, (45) and Osadebe Aigbe (35), to fleece a 64-year-old woman, was foiled on Friday, November 18, 2022, when police operatives from Ogudu Division in Lagos State Police Command, swooped on them and effected their arrest.
The incident occurred at about 3:50pm.
The Lagos police spokesman , SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who made this known in a Tweet, said that before the police moved in, a bank cashier had noticed that the sexagenarian customer was fidgety while she was receiving repeated calls. She was also said to be in a hurry to withdraw N600,000.
According to the PPRO, the cashier, who noticed this, asked the elderly woman what the problem was, but became more curious when she responded that she would die if she talked.
This prompted the bank to call on police officers from Ogudu Division and when they arrived, they apprehended two of the three fraudsters who were found waiting outside, while the third one escaped.
SP Hundeyin said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had initially collected N90,000 from the woman and were waiting for her to withdraw the N600,000 for them to add to that.
The PPRO assured that efforts were ongoing to arrest the third gang member, asking past victims who could identify them to come to the police, to aid the suspects’ prosecution and the likelihood of recovering their money from the fraudsters.
