A 40-year-old security guard, Mr Wale Ajiboye, was killed by armed men on Thursday, August 28, along Rore/Arandun highway, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, for resisting their attempts to enter his employer’s premises.
The same gang also ambushed a vehicle conveying farm produce from Ora in Osun state and shot dead its driver, Mr Taiye Yebi, aged 38, as he drove past them, unaware of the robbery incident, while a passenger sustained injury.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi on Friday , August 29.
The PPRO said that the armed men attacked the residence of a businessman at about 6:30a.m., but was angered by the resistance of the security man from allowing them to enter the premises.
The PPRO said police operatives swiftly moved to the scene where they recovered expended and live ammunition.
She stated further that the corpses of the deceased had been deposited in a hospital morgue.
The Command’s spokeswoman added that the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet investigation and reinforced patrols within the area to forestall recurrence.
“The Command reassures the public that normalcy has been restored, and perpetrators will be apprehended,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.
