Detectives in Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Faisal Audu, over an alleged murder of a hunter, Saheed Awolesi.
The suspect escaped with the victim’s motorcycle and Tecno phone after the murder.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday, October 5.
According to information gathered, at about 2:30pm on Sunday, October 6, the victim’s wife, Mrs Adetutu Awolesi, accompanied by the chairman of the Hunters Association Sagamu Chapter, Chief Tajudeen Adetayo, reported at Sagamu police station that her husband had not returned from night hunting since he left home on October 5, at about 7pm.
The wife told the police that though efforts were made to locate her husband, he remained missing throughout the night.
Thenewsbearer further learnt that following this report, a call was made to the missing husband’s phone, but was answered by another detective at Ibafo police station.
The detective told his colleagues that Audu was apprehended with a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number KNN 555 QC, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a Tecno phone suspected to be stolen.
A team of detectives, led by ASP Momoh Stephen, reportedly conducted an immediate investigation at Ibafo Division, from where the suspect was handed over to police officers from Sagamu Division.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, who spoke on the suspect’s arrest, said that during interrogation, Audu confessed to killing the victim, after which he took over possession of his Bajaj motorcycle and stole his Tecno phone.
The PPRO said that the detectives discovered the crime scene to be located along the NNPC pipeline in Ibekpa Sagamu.
“Marks of violence were found on the deceased’s body, photographs were taken, and the corpse was removed and placed in the Live-Well Hospital morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.
“Efforts are ongoing to capture any additional suspects who fled the scene, and the case will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation,” she stated.
