A suspected cultist who is a leader of Eiye Confraternity and had been on the wanted list of Ogun State Police Command, has been arrested.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect was apprehended by policemen attached to Ogijo division on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the scene of a robbery incident.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspect, Akibu Tikare (26), was picked after a distress call was received at Ogijo division at about 9:30 p.m., that a group of armed robbers were operating between Gbaga and Kamalu areas of Ogijo.
The suspected criminals were said to be dispossessing people of their belongings at gunpoint.
Oyeyemi stated that “on receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ogijo division, CSP Mohammed Suleiman Baba quickly led his men to the scene with some members of vigilance group, and the suspect was arrested while other members of his group, who he claimed came from Ikorodu and Owutu areas of Lagos State, escaped.”
The PPRO said that some of the victims identified the suspect as one of those who robbed them of their properties, including phones and cash. Recovered from the suspect was a locally-made double-barreled short gun.
The image-maker added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun had directed the immediate transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
The police commissioner also said that the fleeing members of the gang must be hunted for and apprehended, in order to put permanent end to the gang’s operations.
