The operational activities put in place by Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, in ember months to achieve a crime-free yuletide and beyond yielded fruits on Tuesday, December 19, when the Command recovered a sack containing arms and ammunition kept by hoodlums.
The weapons included one ArmaLite Rifle (AR), two magazines, 75 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally-made cut-to-size gun, four rounds of live cartridges, an Awka-made pistol and a round of 9mm ammunition.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, December 21, stated that on the said date, at about 4pm, the Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan Police Station, CSP Aliyu Shaba, gathered credible intelligence about the activities of some criminal elements operating within Ekpan, Warri, and environs.
He disclosed that the divisional surveillance team, led by the DPO, swiftly responded to the information and trailed the hoodlums to their hideout behind a place known as NIGER-CAT.
“However, on sighting the police, the hoodlums reportedly took to their heels. They were given a hot chase but escaped.
The PPRO said that when an intensive search was conducted around the uncompleted building, a sack was found, and when also searched, the weapons were found in it.
He added that efforts were on to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
In his comment, CP Abass reiterated the command’s commitment to tracking down all persons involved in crime-related activities.
He warned criminals to steer clear of the state as it would be made too hot for them to carry out their nefarious activities.
