Two suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, after an attack by cultists at Herbert Macauley and Ondo Streets, Ebute Metta area of the state on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
The names of the suspects were given as Tunde Rosanye (39) and Muyideen Ayede (20).
Items recovered from them included a locally-made short gun, live and expended cartridges, two cutlasses, three knives, a mobile phone and a small bag.
Weapons were also recovered from other cultists, while normalcy was restored in the area by the police.
The police image-maker n the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said that some suspected cultists attacked individuals, dispossessed them of their valuables and damaged property at about 11a.m.
The PPRO said that the cultists instilled fear in the minds of innocent Lagos residents, as they created chaos in the ensuing melee after fomenting trouble.
He added that the suspects were arrested after policemen were deployed to the area.
According to Adejobi, “the suspects have given useful information to the police, and efforts are on to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.”
He stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, assured the residents that all hands would be on deck to consistently fight crime and criminality, especially cultism and gangsterism in the state.
The police commissioner also ordered that the suspects be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation, while the fleeing members of the gang should be brought to book.
