Lagos State Police Command has again reiterated its commitment to tackling cultism and other forms of criminality in the state.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, had earlier given the assurance on Monday, May 17, 2021, while addressing the Area Commanders, Heads of Departments and Tactical Commanders at the POWA Hall, Oduduwa Ikeja.
In continuation of the command’s renewed tactical skills to combat crimes in the state, the Commissioner of Police on Wednesday, May 19, launched another phase of weapons and combat training for the members of the rank and file, in order to be in tandem with the ongoing similar training for the 110 Divisional Police Officers in the state.
Adejobi said: “The police boss also promised to extend the training session to Heads of Departments and Sectional Heads in the command as all hands must be on deck to beef up security in Lagos State.
“The training, which is being carried out at various camps in the state, has an outline designed to include legal studies in order to boost the personnel’s expertise in legal proceedings, human rights and general criminal laws in line with the international practices.”
The PPRO stated that based on this, and in total compliance with the directive and anti-crime strategies of the Commissioner of Police, the operatives attached to the Area D Command, Mushin, on Monday, May 17, 2021, arrested one Imo State-born Nwugo Oforuike, aged 30, a member of Aiye confraternity, with a locally-made pistol, a live cartridge, a car key, an Infinix hot 8 light phone, a neck chain and an iron rod.
“In the same vein, police operatives attached to Ojo Division of the Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, 17th May, 2021, at about 6:00 a.m, arrested a suspected serial house breaker, Marcus Ikechukwu, 34, of Karabosowa, Ojo, Alaba, Lagos, who had been terrorising and breaking into people’s houses at Ikotun, Igando, Surulere and other places within the state,” the police spokesman disclosed.
Adejobi said the police team on patrol at Alaba International Market, Lagos, intercepted a green T4 bus and upon search, some suspected stolen items were recovered.
“The items include one large cutter for breaking into houses and three big generators.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime, that he has broken into many houses at Surulere, Igando and Ikotun areas of Lagos State.
“Similarly, the same police operatives attached to Ojo Division on 17th May, 2021, at about 10:30 p.m, arrested two suspected traffic robbers/house Z breakers at Tiv Yam Market, off Lagos/Badagry Expressway, Alaba Rago, Ojo Lagos.
“The suspects are Abdulkareem Hamzat, 24, of old NEPA Road, Alaba Rago, Ojo and Nura Adamu, 20, of Karabosowa, Ojo-Lagos. They were caught in the possession of two dagger knives, giant cutter, a cutlass, catapult and some weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.”
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the suspects be handed over to the command’s Special Squad, Ikeja, for proper investigation and subsequent prosecution.
