Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, has charged newly-promoted senior police officers of the command to see their elevation as an opportunity to do more in the area of maintaining peace in the state.
Enwonwu stated this during the decoration of the officers with their new ranks at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi, was among officers decorated with their new ranks.
Fadeyi was promoted to the rank of a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
The police boss said promotions usually come with more responsibilities, just as he informed the officers that they would now work more, in order to justify their elevation.
Enwonwu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari; the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Alhaji Musiliu Smith and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, for the support given to the command through the promotion of the deserving officers.
“I, therefore, want you all to continue to work hard to justify the promotion,” Enwonwu told the officers.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Assistant to the Oyo State governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd), said the state government would continue to support the police, in order to achieve maximum peace in the state.
CP Odukoya said with security being among the four points of focus for Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, the police would continue to be an integral part to sustain the peace in the state.
Also, the state chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Reverend Peter Omofoye, while speaking, commended the leadership qualities of the CP Enwonwu, which he said had been guiding personnel of the command in the right direction.
Omofoye said Enwonwu’s efficiency was part of the reasons the senior police officers were promoted.
Among those decorated with their new ranks was Ayodele Sonubi, who is now a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
Nine officers were elevated from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
They included ACPs Abimbola Abdulraheem, Kemi Tijani, Omololu Vaughan, Kolawole Oladipo, Adeola Odetunde and Abioye Shittu, among others.
Aside the PPRO, 17 other officers were also elevated from Superintendents of Police (SP) to CSPs.
They included Saliu Abdurahman, Usman Sarafadeen, Abimbola Olaniyan, Femi Okunowo, Kupolati Emmanuel and Muhiz Oshodi, among others.
Two officers promoted from Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were also decorated.
