A factory worker, James Isma’il, who was arrested by Kano State Police Command over the death of his co-worker, Tukur Adamu, during a fight, has expressed regrets, saying that he had never thought of an abrupt end to a human’s life through him.
Thenewsbearer learnt that Isma’il, aged 32, and the deceased, also 32 years old, were staff of Fas Agro Sacks Company, located at Sharada Ja’in Quarters, Kano, and had engaged in a fight during working hours, which led to Adamu’s death.
An argument reportedly broke out between the duo over the factory uniform.
This resulted in throwing of punches and usage of dangerous tools, causing a severe injury to Adamu. He was confirmed dead when rushed to a hospital.
Adamu’s death reportedly infuriated some youths in the community who took mob action and attempted to set the factory ablaze.
Police Public Relations Officer in the command, SP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, who confirmed suspect’s arrest, said that on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at about 8:30am, a distress call was received through the Command’s emergency number, 08032419754, that fighting erupted between Isma’il and Adamu, of Dango Sharada Ja’in Quarters Kano.
The PPRO said that thugs took advantage of the fight and started looting people’s property, with an attempt to set the company ablaze.
“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, ordered the immediate deployment of police operatives, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Sharada Division, SP Abdulrahim Adamu, to the scene.
“On arrival at the scene, the police operatives rushed Adamu to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor certified him dead.”
Kiyawa stated further that Isma’il was immediately apprehended along with 13 suspected thugs.
He added: “The situation was immediately brought under control and the suspects were transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has assured residents of diligent investigation and prosecution, and also called on the good people of the state to avoid taking laws into their hands.”
Isma’il, in an interview, admitted the death of Adamu but said that the deceased was the one who first attacked him during argument over factory uniform.
He said that he regretted Adamu’s death , as they had been close friends in the past three and half years.
“I wouldn’t have accepted to come to work in Kano if I had known that someone’s life would end through me,” the suspect further said.
