Police operatives in Lagos State Police Command, with the support of local vigilante men, have arrested three suspected traffic robbers, two armed robbers and a cultist, in the move towards tackling crime in the state.

The arrest of the suspects were disclosed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday, March 28, 2021.

Giving the names of the traffic robbers as Lucky Isibor (34), Isah Mohammed (26) and Aminu Abdullahi (21), Adejobi said that 11 stolen phones were also recovered by operatives attached to Ikorodu Division, who arrested them on Friday, March 26, at about 11:30pm, at Ikorodu Roundabout.

Also recovered from them were a sum of N139,000, BRT cowry card, black bag containing assorted charms and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

It was learnt that the police team was joined by local vigilante men on patrol, and sighted the suspects at the Ikorodu Roundabout while they were said to be robbing innocent commuters and passersby in the area, leading to their being rounded up.

One of the suspects, Isibor, was discovered, during interrogation, to also be a receiver of stolen goods from other traffic robbers.

Earlier, on Thursday, March 25, at about 6:50pm, the same police operatives arrested Emmanuel James of 27, Hassan Street, Rofo, Odongunyan, Ikorodu, who confessed to being a cultist and a member of Aiye Confraternity.

According to the PPRO, items recovered from the suspected cultist included a locally-made cut-to-size gun, three live cartridges, a blue berret with Eye Confraternity inscription, two bottles of perfume and assorted charms.

He stated further that operatives attached to Mushin Division of the state command arrested two suspected armed robbers, who had been terrorising different areas within Mushin, the same day at about 5:30pm.

The suspects were identified as Nnamaka Udeh and Obinna Onovo.

Items recovered from them included a Samsung 57 phone, which is being identified by one of their victims, pairs of shoes, bags containing ATM cards and charms.

The police spokesman said that the suspects were arrested while the police were responding to a call from market traders, who had been victims of various robbery operations at Ladipo Market.

Saying that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu commended the efforts of the policemen and the vigilante men for the arrests, Adejobi added that the state police boss had ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and prosecution, if found culpable.
