Three workers of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) were nabbed by policemen from Ogun State Command on Thursday, March 11, 2021, for allegedly vandalising railway cables at Kajola area of Ifo Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Frank Obi
(26), Eze Ogbonna (42) and James Ejor (27).
Disclosing this on Saturday, March 13, the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that they were arrested when the supervisor of Kwochason Global Gas company, working on new railway construction in Kajola, reported that five persons were caught while cutting cables at the railway line by the company security guard.
The supervisor told the police that the suspects, however, overpowered the security guard and ran away.
Oyeyemi said that the report made the Divisional Police Officer of Ifo Division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle to direct the station’s detectives to fish out the vandals.
“Intelligence investigation led the policemen to their hideout where the three suspects were arrested, while two escaped.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are all working in the same company,” the PPRO stated.
He added that a saw and cables cut from the rail were recovered from the arrested suspects.
The police spokesman said further that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had directed that efforts should be made to arrest the fleeing vandals.
The police commissioner also directed that the arrested suspects must be diligently prosecuted, Oyeyemi said.
