MAIDUGURI — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled attempted terrorist attacks on key military positions in Borno State, the Nigerian Army said on Friday, March 14, 2026.
The military disclosed that the attacks targeted Azir Bridge in Sector 2 and the town of Banki in Sector 1 during the early hours of the day, when insurgents advanced in large numbers in an attempt to overrun troops’ locations.
In a statement issued by the Joint Task Force (North-East) spokesman, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the terrorists were met with what he described as swift and overwhelming resistance from soldiers on duty.
According to him, the troops launched coordinated counter-attacks that disrupted the insurgents’ formations and forced them to retreat in disarray.
The statement added that the operation received close air support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which played a significant role in repelling the assault and securing the affected areas.
The military also dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms claiming that the terrorists had captured the locations, describing such claims as false and misleading propaganda.
“The failed attacks clearly contradict the misleading reports on some online media platforms. Troops remain firmly in control of all positions,” the statement said, while assuring residents that security forces remain committed to restoring peace in the North-East.
Borno State has remained the epicentre of insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East for over a decade, with troops of Operation Hadin Kai frequently engaging fighters linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province in the region.
