At least two United States Marines died while seven others were critically injured after a military truck crashed in North Carolina on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
According to Daily Mail reports, the crash occurred at the intersection of US 17 and Highway 210 between Verona and Holly Ridge at about 1pm.
A witness said that the truck occupied by the Marines had rolled over in the crash. A medical helicopter was called to the scene to pick up those who were injured.
However, five other Marines who were in the vehicle were lucky to have escaped injuries.
It was learnt that the soldiers had been assigned to the 2nd Marines Logistics Group which is based at Camp Lejeune.
“We are aware of a vehicle rollover in Jacksonville, North Carolina, involving service members with 2nd MLG,” they tweeted.
“We are working closely with @camp_legeune and Onslow County officials to gather details regarding this incident. We will release more information as it becomes available.”
The county had afterwards reported that multiple rescue units had arrived at the scene.
