Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ayuba Elkana, has said that the thrust of the law enforcement officers on community policing will be strengthened in his administration, in a way that will enhance the full participation of members of the society in watching their environments to checkmate the activities of recalcitrant criminal elements.
This, he said, is with the view of ensuring lasting peace and security of the state.
The Commissioner of Police made the statement on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, during his maiden press conference since he assumed duty in the state.
Saying that the press briefing would be his first contact with critical stakeholders as the Zamfara Commissioner of Police, Ayuba stated that it was aimed at familiarising himself with journalists, in consideration of their importance and relevance in crime management and control.
Appreciating God and the Inspector General of Police for the opportunity to serve and the mandate to pilot the affairs of the state command, Elkana promised to do his professional best to justify the confidence reposed in him by the police chief.
He also expressed gratitude to thestate governor, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him on arrival, with the assurance that the police commitment and determination would be on strengthening the existing security architecture designed by the IGP and the governor.
“This remains my primary objective throughout my tenure as the Commissioner of Police in the State,” he added.
He urged journalists to do more by sustaining the spirit partnership and collaboration with the police and other security agencies.
He went further: “On my assumption of duty on Friday last week, I held an emergency meeting with my strategic and tactical commanders where we made a careful review of the existing security challenges and the ways to curtail them, so that we can continue from the successes recorded by my predecessor.
“The combat-readiness, determination and total commitment of the police under my watch will be through total onslaught against recalcitrant criminal elements, and this will be carried out in partnership with the state government, other security agencies, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders.
“My policing strategy will be intelligence-driven, involve community participation and engagement to embrace human security and development services, required diverse expertise to
be driven by fore knowledge and be guided by intelligence at strategic, operational and tactical levels.
“It should therefore be proactive, preventive in orientation and conducted within the context of public ownership, partnership, participation, problem solving and community support with a mainstream human security.
“In view of the above, therefore, I want to assure members of the public in Zamfara State that the police under my watch will discharge its mandate in line with the constitutional provisions and other professional ethics of the force.
“Also, human rights violation, corrupt practices and other unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated.”
The police boss warned all recalcitrant criminal elements in the state to key into the state government peace process programme and surrender their arms or face dire consequences, while he enjoined members of the public to continue to support the police and other security agencies with credible information on activities of criminal elements in the state.
