Police Tactical Operatives attached to 42 PMF Squadron Gusau, in Zamfara State Police Command have rescued a five-month-old baby and 11 adults kidnapped from Rungawa village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area after a month of being in captivity.
The operatives, in joint operation with the vigilantes on Tuesday, near Dajin Kare Kukanka forest, carried out the unconditional rescue following an intelligence report.
Confirming this in a statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said that the rescue was done in line with the mandate given to the new Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Kolo Yusuf, by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to restore lasting peace and security in the state.
The PPRO disclosed that the rescued victims were abducted by armed terrorists and taken to Kare Kukanka forest, which was the bandits’ camp of their leader popularly known as Bello Maibille.
They were however rescued unhurt after spending a month in captivity.
SP Shehu further stated that the victims were medically checked at 42 PMF Clinic Gusau,before they were handed over to their families.
Congratulating the victims for regaining their freedom, the police commissioner assured the public of the Command’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators.
CP Yusuf also commended the joint police/vigilante operatives for the successful operation, just as he enjoined all to be security conscious and report suspicious characters to the police or any security agency for prompt action.
