The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has launched an intensive operation, in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, to apprehend the criminals behind the Sunday, December 7 attack and abduction of motorists at Amala Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, during which a driver was killed.
The operation, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, is also aimed at rescuing the victims.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, on Monday, December 8, said preliminary findings had it that armed men emerged from a bush path at Amala at about 5:50p.m., shot the driver of a Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number SMK 514 BD, and abducted the occupants of a Lexus RS300 with registration number FSD 334 XA.
“On receiving the information, officers from Ngor-Okpala Division swiftly mobilised to the scene, secured the area, and evacuated the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“Consequently, joint security operatives have commenced bush-combing, search-and-rescue, and suspect-tracking within the Amala forest axis and surrounding communities.
“Investigations have commenced with promising progress made toward apprehending those responsible,” the PPRO stated.
He gave an assurance from the Imo State Police Command to residents that all necessary resources have been deployed to rescue the victims and forestall future occurrences.
Okoye added: “Members of the public are urged to remain calm and provide any information that may assist the ongoing operation to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.”
