The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspects, Cosmos Okafor and Okechukwu Wisdom, in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy, Chidera Benjamin, who they allegedly attacked for injuring his mother with machete cuts during a domestic dispute at Byazhin area of the FCT.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday, February 12, at about 11:45p.m.
The police spokeswoman, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the arrest, said that Byazhin Divisional Headquarters was given a report that the teenager was discovered to have been transferring funds from his mother’s bank account into his personal Opay account without her consent, which led to a confrontation by the mother.
According to SP Adeh, Chidera, who was infuriated by the confrontation, reportedly became violent and attacked his mother with a machete, causing serious injury to her hand.
Angered by what the boy did to his mother, the two neighbours who witnessed the scene, in turn, attacked Chidera, for descending on his mother, which led to his sustaining severe injuries, subsequently becoming unconscious.
The PPRO said that Chidera was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by a medical team.
The suspects are are currently undergoing interrogation, and would be charged to court at conclusion of investigations, the Command’s image maker stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, who commiserated with the family, urged residents to always adopt peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, as actions taken in moments of anger could result in tragic and irreversible consequences.
