The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old suspected serial phone thief, Ifeanyi Jeremiah Obi, over alleged thefts at hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu.
The police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying operatives of the Amanuke Police Division arrested the suspect in the early hours of October 25 following investigations and a review of surveillance footage.
Ikenga said the suspect reportedly confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.
He added that investigations were ongoing to recover the stolen phones, establish the full extent of the alleged offences and identify possible accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, urged hotel operators, business owners and residents to strengthen security and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
