An Enugu State-born foodstuff trader in Lagos State, Jane Otubo, has been arrested by police operatives attached to Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, for alleged homosexuality committed on Thursday, March 18, 2021.
Also nabbed was a serial rapist, one Onuorah Obi, of 1, Buari Oloto Street, Ago Okota, on Wednesday, March 17, at about 6.30pm, over sexual assault on victim, and forcefully recording her in nudity.
The 28-year-old suspected gay, who lives at 3, Eniola Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, had reportedly invited one Francis Azeez, a resident of Gwagwalada Area in Abuja , and had paid for his transportation fare to Mafoluku, Lagos, promising to assist him to establish a business.
The state police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement on Friday, March 19, 2021, said that
trouble broke out when Otubo made attempts to have unlawful carnal knowledge of his guest, after he had spent a week with him.
The PPRO said that the guest, identified as Francis, made efforts to escape to Abuja in the morning when he was assaulted severally by the suspect, despite his resistance.
He stated further that the resistance attracted the suspect’s neighbours’ attention, leading to a report lodged with the police.
The owner of the suspect’s residence, popularly called Alfa, was said to have corroborated the guest’s allegation, disclosing that the suspect had been indulging in the infamous act, which he had settled several times.
Speaking on the case of the rape suspect, Adejobi disclosed that the 25-year-old victim (names withheld), of Ago Okota, reported to the police that Obi raped her and recorded her nude pictures and videos.
“The police swung into action and arrested the suspect. When his phone was searched, nude pictures and videos of the victim were recovered from the phone,” he said.
Condemning the acts of the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu ordered that the cases be transferred to the Gender Unit of the command, for further investigation and prosecution.
Odumosu stressed the command’s determination to combat crime and criminality, in collaboration with all relevant government agencies and groups in the state.
