April 15, 2026: The Nigerian Army on Wednesday conducted the burial of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and other soldiers who lost their lives in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.
The deceased officers and men were laid to rest at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, where they were accorded full military honours in recognition of their service and sacrifice to the nation.
The solemn ceremony was marked by grief and reflection, as military personnel, family members, and dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen soldiers.
Brig Gen Braimah, who was the Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, was among those killed when insurgents launched a coordinated attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The assault, which occurred in the early hours of April 9, reportedly involved heavily armed fighters who attempted to overrun the facility.
Although troops responded with force and repelled the attackers, the confrontation resulted in casualties on both sides, including the death of the senior officer.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, assuring that their sacrifices would not be in vain and reaffirming the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity in the country.
The burial underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Nigeria’s military in combating insurgency in the North-East, where armed groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province continue to carry out attacks despite sustained counter-terrorism operations.
