•As police lose two personnel, kill four attackers, recover arms, ammunition

Following the attack on Abayi Police Station, Aba, in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, in the early hours of Tuesday, February, 2021, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has warned of dire consequences for any person or group of persons that engages in unwarranted attacks on persons or public property.

This was just as policemen from Abia State Command killed four of the attackers, arrested eight suspects and recovered arms and ammunition from the hoodlums who carried out the unprovoked attack.

Two personnel from the command also lost their lives in the attack.

The IGP, who spoke through the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, a Commissioner of Police, also commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased officers.

It will be recalled that the hoodlums, numbering about 200 and armed with AK-47 rifles and machetes, invaded the station and set part of it ablaze with the aid of petrol bombs and other explosives.

During the attack, two police personnel, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Vincent Gonze, and Sergeant Emmanuel Okoronkwo were killed and then set ablaze by the hoodlums.

According to the FPRO, Adamu also directed all Command’s Commissioners of Police to employ all legally permissible measures to protect lives and property.

He said that investigation was still ongoing, adding that the perpetrators of the unwholesome incident would be prosecuted in due course.

“The police high command calls on proprietors of medical facilities, both public and private, in and around Abia State, to report any person(s) found seeking medical treatment for bullet wounds and other related injuries to the nearest police station,” Mba quoted IGP to have said.
