A 28-year-old Zamfara-born suspect, Bello Mohammed, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, for being one of the gang members who kidnapped and killed some victims in their den in Kaduna State.
Among the victims was Nabeeha, the daughter of a legal practitioner, Barrister Ariyo, who was kidnapped along with other family members in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, on January 2, 2024.
TheForce spokesman , ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday, January 28, disclosed that Divisional Police Officer, Tafa Division of Kaduna State Police Command, who acted on intelligence, raided one hotel in Tafa Area, Kaduna, where he arrested Bello with the sum of N2.25 million.
The cash sum was suspected to be proceeds from ransom collected from kidnapped victims within the area.
According to the FPRO, during interrogation, Mohammed confessed to being part of the gang that kidnapped Barrister Ariyo’s family members and also killed some kidnapped victims, including Nabeeha, on January 13, in a kidnappers camp, in Kaduna State.
He also revealed the involvement of the five bandits in Kaduna, headed by one Mai Gemu (a.k.a Godara), already neutralised by the IRT, with their deadly camp also destroyed.
In a dramatic turn of event, the suspect reportedly offered N1 million to induce the DPO, but the offer was rejected by the police officer, who, instead, carried out his duty diligently.
ACP Adejobi said that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered that the suspect be handed over to the DFI-IRT in Abuja for discreet investigations into the matter and arrest of all other culprits responsible for the dastardly act.
Commending the DPO of Tafa Division, SP Idris Ibrahim, for the commitment and professionalism displayed in the case, the IGP gave the assurance that the police would leave no stone unturned in decimating criminally-minded individuals and bequeathing to Nigerians a more secure society for all and sundry.
The suspect is currently helping the police in their investigations.
